What is Loft Insulation?

Loft insulation is a thick material made from Glass Mineral Wool, the Glass Mineral Wool is rolled out between, and over the loft joists, acting as a blanket. It stops heat from escaping through your roof and not only keeps your house warm during the winter, but also keeps it cool during the summer. Whilst installing loft insulation, we also insulate any existing pipework and water tanks, this ensures that the loft insulation install enables your home to be as energy efficient as possible, saving you money on your fuel bills and pushing your home up the efficiency scale.

Why do I need Loft Insulation?

Money Saving

By insulating your loft you can save up to £200 per year on your fuel bills. By choosing Greentherm, not only will you reduce your fuel bills, you will also save up to £500 survey, labour and material costs.

Becoming Eco-Friendly

An un-insulated loft losses 25% of a house’s heat (percentage based on figures provided by the Energy Saving Trust), by insulating your loft you will retain heat, allowing your home to use less energy to keep itself warm and cosy. Loft Insulation will save around 720kg of carbon emissions per house per year (carbon saving based on figured provided by British Gas). Insulating your loft means that you are doing your part in reducing CO2 emissions, and it doesn’t cost you a penny!

Increasing Your Property’s Value

Our FREE Loft Insulation Installation can drive up your home’s EPC efficiency rating and increase your home’s value; ‘With homes emitting a quarter of the UK's CO2 emissions, saving energy at home is a hot topic for environmentalists. But going green can also help increase your property's value. Being able to market your home as being an eco-friendly, fully insulated property is likely to add thousands to the value of the home. It'll also help improve your EPC rating.’(UpMyStreet)

Why Is It Free? What’s The Catch?

There is no catch. Greentherm work towards, and in accordance with, the Government’s CERT (Carbon Emissions Reduction Target) programme which provides loft insulation to all owner-occupied and private-rented households. Greentherm work closely with Councils, Letting Agents, Landlords and Funding Agents and have already installed hundreds of free loft insulations. We do this to help reduce Britain’s carbon footprint, help the struggling community cope with rising fuel bills and to create rewarding jobs for the local community.

Why do I need Loft Insulation?

Legal Requirements

The Energy Act 2011 has enabled the Government to introduce regulations regarding the take up of energy efficiency improvements in the Private Rented Sector. The Government’s intention is that;

‘From April 2016, domestic landlords should not be able to unreasonably refuse requests from their tenants for consent to energy efficiency improvements, where financial support is available, such as the Green Deal and/or the Energy Company Obligation (ECO); and from April 2018, all private rented properties (domestic and non-domestic) should be brought up to a minimum energy efficiency standard rating, likely to be set at EPC rating “E”. This requirement would be subject to there being no upfront financial cost to landlords. Where there are costs on landlords (such as time or hassle costs), we are committed to ensuring the benefits meet or exceed these. The intention is that landlords would have fulfilled this requirement if they had either reached “E” or carried out the maximum package of measures funded under the Green Deal and/or ECO (even if this does not take them above an “F” rating).’
(Department of Energy and Climate Change)

What does this mean for me?

Come 2016, as a landlord you will not be able to refuse requests for loft insulation made by tenants whilst the Green Deal and/or the Energy Company Obligation is in place. As long as there are still grants and funding available to you, come 2018 all of your rented properties must have been brought up to a minimum energy efficiency standard rating of ‘E’, if they are not, you will receive a civil penalty charge of up to £5000 for each domestic property.

Many landlords are still unaware of this legal requirement, by insulating your properties now you will avoid the ‘rat race’ for loft insulation which will occur over coming years.

Money Saving

Greentherm’s FREE loft insulation installation will reduce your tenants’ fuel bills by up to £200. If you offer bill inclusive rent rates, you can charge the same rates whilst decreasing the amount of money you pay out for your tenants’ fuel bills, thus increasing your profit levels. Or, you can reduce the price of your inclusive rent rates, making the tenancy which you offer much more price competitive. If you offer bill exclusive rent rates, your potential tenants are much more likely to want to live in your properties knowing that their fuel bills are going to be lower than they would be in an un-insulated property.

By choosing Greentherm, not only will you reduce your fuel bills, you will also save up to £500 survey, labour and material costs. What’s more,

We offer a £5 per house incentive providing we insulate a minimum of 40 properties from your portfolio.

Increasing Interest In The Properties Which You Provide

Greentherm’s FREE loft insulation installation will increase your properties’ EPC Energy Efficiency rating. Due to rising levels of awareness regarding carbon emissions as well as significant rises in fuel prices, people are increasingly favouring energy efficient homes. By increasing your properties’ EPC rating you are also increasing the value of your properties, should you want to sell them;

‘Being able to market your home as being an eco-friendly, fully insulated property is likely to add thousands to the value of the home.’
